Venetian Plaster, Applied In-House

Centuries-old craft, applied by our own plasterers — depth, movement and a finish paint can’t imitate.

What Venetian plaster actually is

Venetian plaster is lime-based plaster applied by hand in thin, burnished layers, then polished to anything from a soft mineral matt to a mirror-like sheen. Light moves across it the way it moves across stone — because in effect that’s what it is: marble dust and lime, returned to the wall. No two surfaces are the same, and that’s precisely the point.

It is a craft finish in the literal sense: the result depends entirely on the hands applying it. Ours are in-house — the same specialists who finish our kitchens and bathrooms — working with premium plaster systems including Luna, chosen for depth of colour and durability.

Where it works best

01

Living spaces & feature walls

A single plastered wall changes a room’s temperature. Full rooms in soft matt marmorino feel carved rather than decorated.

02

Kitchens

Splashbacks, extract canopies and wall runs sealed for daily life — plaster where you’d expect tile, and richer for it.

03

Bathrooms

Tadelakt-style and sealed polished plasters bring warmth and softness to bathrooms without a grout line in sight — often paired with microcement floors.

04

Fireplaces, media walls & joinery

Plaster-finished chimney breasts and media walls are a Mida signature — architectural forms with a surface that rewards a second look.

Finishes & colour

From honed matt marmorino through satin lucido to high-polish stucco, in a colour library we’ll bring to your consultation — plus bespoke tints matched to stone, cabinetry or fabric. Samples are made up on boards for your actual light, because plaster chosen under showroom spotlights is a guess.

Application & care

Surfaces are prepared, primed and built up in multiple hand-applied coats over several days, then burnished and sealed to suit the room — wax for living spaces, dedicated sealers for wet and working areas. Properly sealed Venetian plaster wants very little: a soft cloth, no abrasives, and it will outlast several repaints.

FAQs

How much does Venetian plaster cost?

It’s priced by the square metre and varies with the finish and the complexity of the surface — reveals, curves and canopies take longer than flat walls. As a guide, expect [£X–£X]/m². [CLIENT TO CONFIRM.] We’ll quote precisely from photographs or a visit.

Sealed correctly, it’s a hard mineral surface that ages gracefully rather than shabbily. Unlike paint, small repairs can be blended by the original applicator — one of many reasons to use an in-house team that will still be here in five years.

Yes — with the right plaster system and sealing, which is exactly where experience matters. For fully wet zones we’ll often recommend microcement instead; we apply both, so the advice is honest rather than convenient.

Yes. Many plaster commissions are single rooms or features in homes we haven’t otherwise worked on. The consultation process is the same — and it’s often how clients meet us before a larger kitchen or bathroom project.
