Media Walls & Architectural Lighting

A television is a black rectangle. The wall around it is where the design happens.

Media walls that finish a room, not dominate it

The media wall has become the most requested feature in the modern living space — and the most badly done. Floating boxes of painted MDF with a strip of colour-changing LED are everywhere, and they date on contact. We build media walls as architecture: proportioned to the room, detailed like joinery, and finished in the materials that run through the rest of our work — hand-polished Venetian plaster, microcement, stone and veneered timber.

Integrated fires, concealed soundbars and equipment, shadow-gap reveals, hidden storage, and lighting designed into the form rather than stuck onto it. The result reads as part of the building — which is why our media walls appear in rooms we’ve otherwise barely touched, and why they’re one of the most shared things we make.

What we build

01

Plaster & microcement media walls

Monolithic chimney-breast forms in polished plaster or microcement, with fire and screen recessed flush — the signature Mida look.

02

Joinery media walls

Veneered and sprayed cabinetry walls with concealed storage, display lighting and integrated media — living-room furniture at kitchen-grade quality.

03

Integrated electric fires

Media-wall fires specified for genuine heat output and safe clearances around screens — designed in, not squeezed in.

04

Architectural LED design

Lighting that shapes the room after dark: concealed coffer and shelf lighting, plaster-in profiles with no visible fittings, and scenes tuned in the evening for how the room is actually used. Warm, dimmable, and never a colour wheel in sight — unless you ask.

Designed with the room, wired properly

Every media wall starts with a measured survey and a lighting-and-power plan: screen sightlines from the actual seating, ventilation for equipment, cabling routed invisibly, and controls kept simple. Installation is by our own joiners, finishers and electrical team under one programme — typically days on site for a standalone media wall.

Application & care

Surfaces are prepared, primed and built up in multiple hand-applied coats over several days, then burnished and sealed to suit the room — wax for living spaces, dedicated sealers for wet and working areas. Properly sealed Venetian plaster wants very little: a soft cloth, no abrasives, and it will outlast several repaints.

FAQs

How much does a bespoke media wall cost?

Joinery-based walls typically start around [£X]; plaster or microcement monolith walls with integrated fires sit between [£X] and [£X] depending on size and finish. [CLIENT TO CONFIRM BANDS.] You’ll have a fixed written price before we build anything.

Yes — standalone media walls are one of our most common commissions. We protect the room, build, finish and hand over; many clients later return for the kitchen or bathroom, which tells you how the first project went.

We integrate them. Fires we supply and install [CONFIRM]; screens and audio we’ll either supply or design around what you own, with power, ventilation and brackets positioned exactly.

The colour-changing strip variety, yes. Ours are designed the way architects light buildings — warm, concealed, dimmable — which is why they age like good lighting rather than like a trend.
